BASILDON BOROUGH NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH

Basildon Borough Neighbourhood Watch is the overarching organisation for local Neighbourhood Watch schemes/watches that have been set up in Basildon, Billericay, Wickford and other parts of the Borough.  Oversight is provided by a Steering Committee which represents them at Community Partnership meetings with Basildon Council, Essex Police and other such bodies. It also represents them at Essex County Executive level meetings and supports Community fundraising days to promote Basildon Neighbourhood Watch.  The Steering Committee seeks financial support to pursue their objectives from any source deemed to be appropriate. The Steering Committee encourages the development of existing schemes and the creation of new schemes within the Borough by offering a support service for anyone wishing to set up a new Watch Scheme. We are able to supply the necessary materials free of charge to set up new groups such as street signs and literature along with advice and guidance. Through the various “Watches” we actively encourage residents of the Borough to join their local watch scheme. We are also looking to substantially increase the number of schemes in certain of the Borough’s Wards which currently have little Neighbourhood Watch representation. If you wish to know more about joining a scheme whether as a member or a Street Coordinator within the Basildon Borough please contact [email protected] or call 07814 739577.

We hold our Annual General Meeting in June and all  Co-ordinators and members of NhW groups within the Borough of Basildon are welcome to attend. We have a Facebook Page and a Twitter account for Basildon Neighbourhood Watch, hashtag @WatchBasildon. If you wish to know more about joining a scheme whether as a member or a Street Coordinator within the Basildon Borough please contact [email protected] or call 07814 739577.

Basildon NhW Report For County Meeting 13th August 2024

Our AGM was held on 2nd July and all officers re-elected for a further year. Our Steering Committee now meets 4 times a year instead of bi-monthly .

As with other districts we attend as many community based events as we can and recently took part in the Basildon and Pitsea Carnival which is a very well attended event with many attractions and stallholders. We never do very well recruitment wise at this event but at least we had a presence.

On 17th August we are part of a big Community Safety Day in Basildon Town Centre which in previous years has proved very fruitful for NhW.

Essex Police have opened a Police Community Hub in the Basildon Eastgate shopping centre which is open on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Mondays during the school holidays from 20th July to 1st September. This is a pilot which may be extended if resources are made available. Apart from the police there are a number of partner agencies taking part and slots can be booked within the hub. We have booked many sessions during this period and find it very productive. Inevitably some days have been better than others but so far we have signed up 3 new watch areas and members for existing schemes. Additionally we helped one of our Co-ordinators to fix an IT problem that she was having.

Currently Basildon NhW does not have its own website and probably the only district that does not. We have a Facebook and Twitter (X) page but this does not cut the mustard. So we are going to drag ourselves into the 21st century and have a dedicated website in the near future. Cheryl Spruce has offered her help with this and I also read with interest the Colchester report in which Grahame also offered similar.
